As
mentioned above, despite everyone’s
best efforts we have observed that there
is still an unacceptably high number of
incidents, accidents and deaths from furniture
tip-overs and falling TVs, especially TVs.
Please take a moment and visit Katie's
Foundation for Child Safety News page
to get a better understanding of the problem.
As noted above the Consumer
Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is
reporting that one child dies every two weeks
when a TV, piece of furniture, or an appliance
falls on them. Please click the icon directly
to the right so you can download a CPSC
PDF with some statistical
information on these tragedies and simple
methods that tell you how to prevent them.
|
|
|
This
recent tragedy directly below is
a perfect example of what the CPSC
is talking about. Please click on
the link and read the story.
|
|
|
Directly
below we are re-publishing those preventative
measures. The most important thing about
child safety is recognizing that it is
an ongoing job. With some planning and
some effort you can save a life.
|
- Anchor furniture to a
stud in the wall or the floor.
- Place TVs on sturdy, low bases.
- Or, anchor the furniture and the TV
on top of it, and push the TV as far
back on top of the
furniture as possible.
- Keep remote controls, toys, and other
items that might be attractive to children
off TV stands or furniture.
- Keep TV and/or cable cords out of
reach of children.
- Make sure freestanding kitchen ranges
and stoves are installed with anti-tip
kits.
- Supervise children in rooms where
these safety tips have not been followed.

our revised Child Safety Videos page. Take

On Saturday, March
2, 2013, Katie's Foundation
for Child Safety held its 3rd Annual
Night Out - A Beef N Beer Fundraiser. This
very successful event was held from 8 pm
to midnight at the North Penn VFW
POST, 2519 Jenkintown Road Glenside,
PA 19038.
During the event we raffled of a variety of
baskets/gift cards and prizes. Many thanks to a
great group of sponsors who graciously gave of
themselves and supplied us with some great items.
Along with the event itself those raffle items
help us raise the funds necessary to continue
providing safety information, hold safety events
and to ultimately help prevent another death from
falling furniture. Click here to see our list of
sponsors for this event.

Katie Elise Lambert was born one beautiful
hot summer day, July 30th, 2001.
She was an incredible gift from
God with bright brown eyes and
soft silky brown hair. From day
one, her contagious smile and loving
personality infected all those
around her. Sadly and suddenly,
on January 21, 2005, our precious
angel Katie was taken from us when
a large wardrobe cabinet fell on
top of her. Her untimely and cruel
death have left us incomplete.
Katie has left behind two older
brothers, two grieving parents
and countless others whose lives
have been changed forever.
The creation of the Katie Elise Lambert
website has been established for two
reasons:
|
- To educate the public on the potential
hazard of falling furniture
- To help ensure and protect the
safety of all children both inside
and outside the home.
