Katie's Corner
is an area designed for those who did not know
Katie personally, in order to get to know her
better; and for those who knew Katie well
and would like to remember how truly special
she really was.
Katie was an energetic, affectionate little girl whose personality was as individual
as they come. There is an old saying which refers to little girls as being
made up of "Sugar and spice and everything nice". Playing
quietly with dolls was definetly not her thing. For those of you who knew
Katie would remember that she would much rather play noisily with cars and trucks
rather than quietly with stuffed animals or dolls. Her favorite toy in
the world was Thomas The Tank Engine. She could put together her wooden
railroad tracks and would play "choo choos" for hours. On occasion,
she would need to stop playing to run after her black lab, JD, who would steal
one of her trains and hide under the dining room table with it.

She and JD, her dog, had a special relationship. She would give him "doggie
bones" after giving him his "sit" command. They would also
play follow the leader with Katie leading (with "doggie bone" in hand
) and JD following. She enjoyed bones as much as JD did. I had even
caught her tasting a "doggie bone" because JD made them look so tasty. JD
would even allow Katie to try to sit on him and he would patiently wait until
she was finished pretending that he was her horse. Maybe the special
relationship they shared is the reason that the night she died and for 5 nights
thereafter, until the funeral, after we would all go up to bed and all
was quiet, JD would begin to pace, cry and bark. It was only after my husband,
Bob, would go downstairs to calm him and eventually sleep next to him that JD
would drift off to sleep. I am convinced that JD sensed that his special
friend was gone. I truly believe that he was looking for Katie during those
long, lonely, and sleepless nights.
Katie also loved to wrestle with her daddy and 2 older brothers, Bobby and Evan. She
adored Dora the Explorer, Frosty the Snowman and drinking Yoo Hoo. She
enjoyed her Nemo puzzle, her Thomas tent and sniffing her mommy's unlit candles.
Katie did not enjoy wearing dresses or having her hair combed. She liked
chocolate doughnuts with sprinkles and eating POP-TARTS.
But the most important thing to Katie besides her family was her love for her
old, ripped blankie. Blankie went with her everywhere. She would
place it in her Thomas schoolbag when she went to preschool, take it shopping,
take it over Grandma's or mom mom's house and, of course, she could not sleep
without it. My memories of Katie are vast and numerous with feelings ranging
from happiness and joy to sadness and emptiness. I believe the most vivid
memory that I have and the one that I cherish the most, is Katie cuddling with
her blankie, cozy, warm and safe in her bed with the soft glow of the nightlight
illuminating her soft, precious face.
I miss you Katie, I miss you more than words can
describe. Although your time with me was too short,
I am eternally thankful that I was given the chance
to meet you, laugh with you, and now cry for you. I
will always love you Katie and I look forward to
the day that we meet again in the heaven. Please
color a picture of heaven for me.LOVE,
Your Mommy
